I've got the title in front of me now where do I sign?:

Release ownership by signing on line one on the front of the title. If a company is leasing the title, the company must sign. If the owner possesses the title, you must have them sign off as the seller.

Attached to the top of your Alaska title should be a "Release of Liability/Notice of Transfer" form which you can tear off. This form should be complete with the name of the organization or individual you are giving the car to. The next step is to sign and mail to the address indicated.  This is a form that allows you to release the liability of the vehicle between the time that it leaves you possession and the complete transfer of ownership. It's good to keep a copy of this form for security reasons.

I'm the registered owner but I can't find my title:

If your title has been lost, stolen, destroyed or has become illegible you can apply for a duplicate title. In order for you to receive a duplicate title you must fill out an affidavit of loss form. If there is an active lien on the vehicle you will need a lien release from any lienholder of record and $15 for service charges. This must be submitted to the your local DMV.

You may want obtain an Affidavit of Lost, Stolen or Destroyed Title from any Alaska Division of Motor Office. You can also request one in writing at the address below.

The owner of the vehicle is deceased:
