Take your plates to a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office with your registration, so you can cancel the registration.

This protects you from tickets and other charges that could arise after the vehicle is long gone. You may also receive a registration refund if you have a year or more left on your registration .

Don't cancel your liability insurance until you've cancelled the registration.
