Hawaii Title Processing Information
I've got the title in front of me now where do I sign?:
You sign under your printed name in the white box on the left top corner on the front of the title. You must also sign on the bottom of the title on line 1 and 2 where indicated, in the case of multiple owners.
The Notice of Transfer form must be submitted within 10 days of the sale. Both Hawaii County, the City and County of Honolulu have these forms online. If you are on Maui or Kauai, visit a local registration office to pick up the form. If the donors fails to take care of this task within the required 10 days, it could result in a $100 fine.
I'm the registered owner but I can't find my title:
Duplicate Title: If your title has been lost, stolen, destroyed or has become illegible you can apply for a duplicate title. In order for you to receive a duplicate title you must fill out an affidavit of loss form, a lien release from any lienholder of record and $15 for service charges. This must be submitted to the your local DMV.
High value vehicles: If you don't have the title to your vehicle and you can't get a duplicate title you can apply for a salvage title through a Lien Of Sale process.
Low value vehicles: If you don't have a negotiable title and you are to able to obtain a duplicate title, you can still sell the vehicle for parts only by completing the bill of sale.
If you want to donate your vehicle but you don't have the title and you don't want to obtain one, we can take care of the duplicate title process for you. You'll need to complete the forms listed below.
Two completed notarized Powers of Attorney signed by all owners listed on the title (one to apply for the duplicate title and one to sign the duplicate title when it is received from the DMV) and a lien release if applicable.

In most cases we can still pick up the vehicle, if we need paperwork from you it will be in the form of your signature on a short document describing the location where the vehicle was left and your request for us to remove it.
If the vehicle registration has lapsed more than 8 years it can be retitled using a salvage title without going through the lien sale process.
