I've got the title in front of me now where do I sign?:

Release ownership by signing in the bottom of the title, line 3, off to the right on the front face of the title in the assignment of title section. If there is an active lien on the vehicle the lien holder must sign on the (State Of Minnesota Certificate Of Lien Release To A Motor Vehicle) form on line 2. The lien release must include the date signature of the authorized agent, and the agent's title.

The liability of the vehicle will be released when you complete the Secure Power Of Attorney Form.

I'm the registered owner but I can't find my title:

If your title has been lost, stolen, mutilated, destroyed, countered, or has become illegible and you are the registered owner you can apply for duplicate title by filling out the Application for Vehicle Transaction(s) (VSD 190).

If you are not able to obtain a negotiable title or the paperwork for a duplicate title, IAA can obtain a Salvage title through the Illinois abandonment process. IAA does a title search documenting all past registered owners and lien holders. IAA will send the required registered mailings to all owners and lien holders and will wait the prescribed number of days by law for contact. If no response within the specified time period, the local law enforcement community is solicited to sign off on a Certificate of Purchase. Once the C.O.P. is signed, IAA will send this document along with application for a Salvage title. This process takes about 90-120 days from the date of request to the date of sale.

If you want to donate your vehicle, but you don't have the title and you have no desire to obtain it, we can take care of the duplicate title process for you. All you need to do is fill out the following forms and hold onto them until the tow agent comes to pick up your car. You will need to fill out 1 Illinois Secure POA signed by all owners listed on the title and 1 Illinois Non-secure POA signed by all owners listed on the title (one to apply for the duplicate title and one to sign the duplicate title when it is received from the DMV) and a lien release if needed.

The owner of the vehicle is deceased:

In the case of a one owner death: You will need a certified copy of the death certificate, a Small Estate Affidavit (RT-OPR-31.14), and a properly signed title by the heir/next of kin (the heir/next of kin can not transfer ownership with a POA, they must sign the title).

In the case of a probated estate: You will need a certified copy of the death certificate, Letters of
Testamentary or Letters of Administration, and a properly signed title by the executor of the estate (the executor can not transfer ownership with a POA, they must sign the title).

The vehicle was abandoned on my property:

In most cases we will be able to pick up the vehicle. If we need paperwork from you it will usually be in the form or your signature on a paper describing where the vehicle was left and your request for us to remove it.
