I've got the title in front of me now where do I sign?:

Release ownership by signing on line 5 on the front of the title. If the vehicle is, or was financed, the lienholder’s name appears in the legal owner section and their release with counter signature is required on line two.

Currently the most important piece of paperwork that you can have when donating a vehicle is the title, which you must sign over to the new owner. You can not legally sell the vehicle without the title.

I'm the registered owner but I can't find my title:

If your title has been lost, stolen, countered, mutilated, destroy or has become illegible, you can apply for the Application for Replacement of Iowa Certificate of Title of Motor Vehicles (form 411033). You will encounter a $15 dollar fee you submit this replacement application. Of course if there is an active lien on the vehicle, you will need a lien release.

If you are not able to obtain a negotiable title or the paperwork for a duplicate title, it is possible to obtain a title through the Iowa abandonment process. You'll need written notification on Provider letterhead requesting the Abandonment process. You would then submit a request to the local authorities who are required to notify all owners by mail and then advertise the vehicle. A Junking certificate would then be obtained from the DMV. This option should be used as a last resort when all efforts have failed to produce a negotiable title.

If you want to donate your vehicle, but it doesn't have  a title and you don't want to go through the process of obtaining a duplicate title we can handle it for you. You will need to fill out the forms below and hang onto them until the tow agent comes to pickup your vehicle.

An Application for Replacement Title signed by all owners listed on the title (Form 411033).

Lien Release (if applicable).

Two notarized Iowa Non-Secure POAs (Form 411021, if there is no lien on the title).

Or

One notarized Iowa Non-Secure POA (Form 411021) and one Iowa Secure POA (form 411101, if there is an active lien on the title).

The owner of the vehicle is deceased:

In the case of a deceased owner with the presence of a will:  You'll need an Affidavit of Death Testate (form #411083), a certified copy of the death certificate, and a signed title by the person named in the will.

In the case of a probated estate: You'll need a copy of the death certificate, notarized probate papers from
the court and a properly signed title by the executor of the estate.

The vehicle was abandoned on my property:

In most cases we can still pick up the vehicle, if we need paperwork from you it will be in the form of your signature on a short document describing the location where the vehicle was left and your request for us to remove it.
