What paperwork do I need to donate my vehicle in Massachusetts?
In most cases we need the title to the vehicle. But, if you do not have title papers you can apply for a replacement title before donating your vehicle. You can contact the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles with any questions you have about a replacement title for your car donation or how to release the liability of your donated vehicle. What types of vehicles do not require a title in Massachusetts?
The following types of vehicles do NOT require a title in Massachusetts: Any vehicle purchased before 1972, trailers under 3000 lbs.
Where do I sign the title before donating my car in Massachusetts?
To properly transfer a title, the donor(s) must sign the release on the title and complete the assignment to the new owner. If there is an "AND" conjunction on the face of the title, ALL owners must release the title. With an "OR" conjunction, only one of the owners is required to release the title. What do I do with my license plates?
The State of Massachusetts requires donors to remove the license plates from the donated vehicle. The plates must then be taken to the Registry of Motor Vehicles and surrendered there in person.
