I've got the title in front of me now where do I sign?:

Release ownership by signing on line 3 on the "Assignment of Title by Registered Owner" section you can find on the face of the title. The buyer's signature and printed name goes on the "First Reassignment By Licensed Dealer" Section.

In order to release liability you must surrender the sold vehicle's license plates to your local Tax Collector's office. This will update your vehicle ownership records and thus protect you against any liability confusion.

I'm the registered owner but I can't find my title:

If you are the registered owner and your title has been lost or stolen you can apply for a duplicate title by completing the Application for Replacement Certificate of Title form. You'll need to have the original if it has been damaged with you when submitting this form along with a photo ID. If the title shows a lien holder you will need a power of attorney signed by the lien holder. There will be a $4 fee for a duplicate title. You can mail it to your local tax collector's office or mail to the address below.

If you are not able to attain a negotiable title or the paperwork for a duplicate title, you can obtain a Salvage title or Junk Certificate through the Mississippi abandonment process. You will need a notification on Provider letter head requesting the Abandonment process and indicating whether or not you still hold an interest in the vehicle. This option should be used as a last resort when all efforts have failed to produce a negotiable title.

The owner of the vehicle is deceased:

In the case of a one owner death: You'll need a certified copy of the death certificate, a notarized next of kin affidavit, and a properly signed title by the next of kin. If there is the presence of a will, ownership transfers to the person named in the will. We will need a certified copy of the will, a certified copy of the death certificate, and
a signed title by the appointed person named in the will.

In the case of a probated estate: You will need notarized probate papers from the court and a properly signed
title by the executor of the estate.

The vehicle was abandoned on my property:

In most cases we will be able to pick up the vehicle. If we need paperwork from you it will usually be in the form or your signature on a paper describing where the vehicle was left and your request for us to remove it. The process for acquiring the title for an abandoned vehicle can be long and tedious, but you won't have to worry about anything because we take care of it for you.
