I've got the title in front of me now where do I sign?:

Release ownership of the vehicle by signing on line one of the (All owners whose names appear on the face of this title must sign) Section.

If the owner has the title, have them sign off as the seller. Exchange the payment for the correctly signed documents and the vehicle's keys. Make sure to check for any unsigned liens on the title and obtain a proper lien release, if applicable. To release liability you can also fill out the Nebraska secure power of attorney.

I'm the registered owner but I can't find my title:

If you are the registered owner, but your title has been lost, stolen, mutilated, countered or has become illegible you can apply for a duplicate title by filling out the (Application For A Duplicate Certificate Of Title).

It is important to obtain a negotiable title for your vehicle because there is no prescribed method of selling a salvage vehicle without one. If you have questions about title processing call Omaha Branch at 402.733.2424.

Two Nebraska Secure POAs signed by all owners (one to apply for the duplicate title and one to sign the duplicate title when it is received from the DMV).

Lien Release (if applicable).

The owner of the vehicle is deceased:

In the case of no probate proceedings: The surviving spouse or other heir may transfer ownership of the vehicle if 30 days have elapsed since the decedent's death, the net value of the deceased estate does not exceed $25,000. You will need a copy of the death certificate, a notarized Affidavit for Transfer of Decedent's Motor Vehicle and a properly endorsed title by the surviving spouse or other heir.

In the case of a probated estate: You'll need a certified copy of the death certificate, notarized probate papers from the court and a properly signed title by the executor of the estate.

The vehicle was abandoned on my property:

In most cases we can still pick up the vehicle.  If we need paperwork from you it will be in the form of your signature on a short document describing the location where the vehicle was left and your request for us to remove it.

In the state of Nebraska it is possible to apply for a Affidavit and Request For Certificate of Title Abandoned Vehicle/ATM/Minibike/Motoboat by which you can legally obtain ownership of the vehicle. You will need to see if the abandoned vehicle is actually considered an "abandoned vehicle" according to the Nebraska DMV which can be found here.

The conditions for abandoned vary according to the type of property the vehicle was abandoned on.
