What paperwork do I need to donate my vehicle in Washington?
In most cases we need the title to the vehicle. But, if you do not have title papers you can apply for a replacement title before donating your vehicle. Please visit the Washington DOL web site to obtain the necessary forms before donating: Washington Department of Licensing.
How do I release the liability of my donated vehicle in Washington?
You may file the report of sale:
- online for free.
- OR
- in person at a vehicle licensing center. (Additional fees may apply.)
After filing the report of sale, keep the receipt as proof you filed the report. If you file online, print the receipt after you complete the report of sale.

What types of vehicles require a title in Washington?
Snowmobiles do NOT require a title in Washington.
Where do I sign the title before donating my car in Washington?
To properly transfer a title, the donor(s) must sign the release on the title and complete the assignment to the new owner. If there is an "AND" conjunction on the face of the title, ALL owners must release the title. With an "OR" conjunction, only one of the owners is required to release the title.
What do I do with the plates when I donate my car in Washington?
Washington Department of Licensing does not require you to surrender your plates, with the exception of specialty plates. Regular license plates can be destroyed or recycled and can thus remain with the vehicle. Specialty plates should be surrendered at your local vehicle licensing office.
