I'VE GOT THE TITLE IN FRONT OF ME, NOW WHERE DO I SIGN?

Release ownership by signing on line 4 on the back of the title. If the vehicle is, or was financed, the lienholder’s name appears in the legal owner section and their release with counter signature is required on the front of the title in the Release section.

You must submit a Sold Vehicle and Watercraft Notice 60 days after you sell the vehicle. This prevents the buyer from operating the vehicle until it's registered in his or her name and in return it protects you against vehicle liability between the time the title is signed and the registration is transferred. It is recommend that you keep a copy of the bill of sale.

I'm the registered owner but I can't find my title:

The registered owner of the vehicle can apply for a duplicate title by filling out the Affidavit of Duplicate Title for a Vehicle or Watercraft form. You will need to send a photo copy of your drivers license and $10 for the lost title fee. If there was a lien on the title from a bank or other financial institution you will also need a lien release from the bank stating the loan has been paid off and releasing the lien on the vehicle.

If you want to donate your vehicle but don't want to go through the process of obtaining a duplicate title, we can take care of the process for you. You will just need to fill out the form below and hold them until the tow agent comes to pickup your vehicle at which time you can hand over the forms and our charity will take it from there.

Two completed notarized Powers of Attorney (or WV Secure POAs) signed by all owners listed on the title (one to apply for the duplicate title and one to sign the duplicate title when it is received from the DMV).

A notarized lien release (if applicable).

Or

An Application for Duplicate title signed by all owners listed on the title.

A notarized POA or WV Secure POA, signed by all owner listed on the title.

A notarized lien release (if applicable).

The owner of the vehicle is deceased:

In the case of joint ownership: With Right of Survivorship (TOD noted on title, or names separated by “or” or “and/or”) and one owner is deceased, we require a certified copy of the death certificate, a properly signed title by the surviving owner, and a lien release, if applicable.

In the case of Tenants in Common: (joint ownership with names joined by “and”) and one owner is deceased or a vehicle solely owned by the deceased where a certificate of appointment has been issued, we will need a certified copy of the death certificate, a copy of the court issued certificate of appointment, appointing an Administrator/Executor, a properly signed title by the Administrator/Executor and by the survivor (if applicable), and a lien release, if applicable.

The vehicle was abandoned on my property:

We can only pick up an abandoned vehicle if we are able to obtain a signature from the last registered owner.
