In many cases, Donate a Car 2 Charity can pick up your vehicle in Maryland even if you don't have the title. We just need the registered owner to sign some paperwork so we can obtain the title for the vehicle.

In many cases, Donate a Car 2 Charity can apply for a new title for you if you have lost your vehicle title, and we also take care of the paperwork & title fees for you.

If you would rather apply for a replacement title yourself, here's how you can apply:

  • Online through the MVA's website at www.mva.maryland.gov. Duplicate titles ordered online may be mailed to an alternate address at the owner's request, except company owned vehicles.  The mailing instructions are provided in the online application.
  • At a KIOSK located in all full service and Express Service MVA's.  Duplicate titles ordered from a KIOSK may be mailed to an alternate address at the owner's request, except company owned vehicles.  The instructions are on the KIOSK application.
  • At a tag and title service licensed by the MVA.  You will need to submit a copy of your valid state issued identification and complete an Application for Duplicate Certificate of Title (VR-018)
  • In person at any of the MVA's full service branch offices. The request must include a completed Application for Duplicate Certificate of Title that has been signed by all vehicle owners, and the original title if it is available (e.g. the title is altered or mutilated). A copy of the owner(s) valid driver's license or state issued ID must accompany the application.  The duplicate title will be mailed to the address on record with the MVA.

We have provided a picture of a sample Maryland vehicle title. The arrow is pointing to the location for your signature. Make sure you sign the title with the name listed on the front page of your title. When the tow driver comes to pick up your vehicle, you should turn over the signed title to the driver at that time.

1. Remove Your license plates. You should remove the license plates of your vehicle before it is towed.

2. Return or transfer plates. You would then need to mail your license plates to your local county office. If you prefer you can also transfer the plates to your new vehicle. You should contact the county license plate issuing official's office for further information.

3. Stop insurance. Please make sure to cancel your insurance after your car has been towed.
